And the bride had local flowers…

13 September 2010

I was impressed with the display of fantastic OXFORDSHIRE GROWN flowers at the wedding yesteray at Sheepdrove Eco Conference Centre.

The wedding flowers were provided by the brilliant Green and Gorgeous.

Locally grown flowers fit perfectly with the ethos of the venue, of course. The family also collected wild ivy from the farm to adorn the Oak Room, doorways and arches. The place looked great!

Return of the ‘Hummingbird’

25 July 2010

Hummingbird Hawkmoths are back again, those magical little moths who come over  from continental Europe each summer. They love to feed from lavender, catmint and valerians at the Physic Garden, hovering all the while!

Along with the gorgeous butterflies, these daytime moths add to the sense of wonder as you wander the flower beds behind the conference centre.

Food for Life awards film

11 December 2009

We are now able to show you a film about the Food for Life Partnership Awards Ceremony 2009, which was hosted here at Sheepdrove Eco Conference Centre.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall believes strongly in the value of the Food for Life programme, which encourages children and school staff to rediscover food. With the FFL programme’s emphasis on sustainable, healthy food, the Eco Conference Centre was an ideal setting.

Hugh said, “It’s impossible to exaggerate how important it is to feed our kids well when they’re at school. Their physical, mental and even emotional development depends on us getting it exactly right.”

He presented silver and gold awards to those who made the most outstanding impact on their local and school food culture. The star pupils took part in cookery workshops on FFL’s Cooking Bus and enjoyed a tour of Sheepdrove Organic Farm.

Film: Age of Stupid

2 September 2009

We’re showing AGE OF STUPID this Friday, 4th Sept at 7.30pm.

The Age Of Stupid (certificate 12A, 92 mins)

ageofstupidThis underground-turned-mainstream film stars Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking back at archive footage from 2007 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

Tickets £7 (£5 to members of Slow Food.)
Please call to book on 01488 674737

Why is it cheaper to Slow Food members? The local SF group have organised this event and SLOW FOOD is a movement we support. (Of course you can join on the door too.) The way we produce food is inextricably linked to the climate change issue, and so it’s only fitting that their film is shown at the Sheepdrove Eco Conference Centre. On Friday the Oak Room will become a cinema for the night!

This is just one of many events at the Sheepdrove Eco Conference Centre.

Moth Night 2009

17 June 2009

Fri 18 Sept 2009
7pm start – until late!

We are hosting an event for National Moth Night 2009 here on the remote chalk downland location at Sheepdrove Organic Farm, Lambourn, Friday 18 September, set up from 7pm.

Have you ever been to a moth night? There will be several ‘light traps’ in action, with bright lamps which draw moths into a container where they can be watched and identified. Our herb garden at the back of the Eco Conference Centre is the special setting for our nocturnal discoveries!

Everyone is welcome!
The variety of moth shapes and coloration can be mind-boggling, so specialists will be on hand to help us understand which moths fly in! We have a wide range of moths living near the gardens, because of the other habitats nearby – ponds, chalk grassland, hedges and ancient woodland.

Join us for a great night out with a difference!

Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.

Location: Sheepdrove Eco Conference Centre, Sheepdrove Road, RG17 7UU. Satnav users beware – enter road name NOT postcode.
